About NEWb

NEWb is the learn- and work company of Inholland University of Applied Sciences for the Communication and Media & Entertainment Management, International Communication Management and International Media & Entertainment Management programmes. NEWb has branches in Rotterdam and The Hague. All second-year COM, MEM, ICM & IMEM students spend one semester working for NEWb. For you, this means working in a project group on one or more assignments for an external client, for the next twenty weeks.

Entrepreneurship is a broad concept, which means that an entrepreneur has to have a wide range of skills at his disposal and be able to carry out a variety of tasks.
At NEWb, you will develop your entrepreneurial skills in part by:
- creating products relevant to the professional field
- focusing on your personal and professional development.

NEWb offers outstanding opportunities for linking theory and practice because you will be working on one or more assignments for genuine clients. As an entrepreneur, you are able to explore the market, to formulate a mission and a strategy, to conceive concepts (with appropriate budgets) and to summarise them in a project plan. This will form the basis of a presentation in which you will be able to ‘sell’ your ideas to the client. If the client is convinced by the plan, you will be responsible for realising the product and for dealing with all its financial aspects. The fact that you are involved in the entire product realisation process sets NEWb apart from other learn- and work companies. Not only are concepts and plans drawn up at NEWb, they are also implemented.

A professional NEWb employee pays specific attention to his or her personal development. Besides developing entrepreneurial skills, the focus is on improving the ability to work in teams. Peer assessment discussions focus explicitly on a number of criteria by which these competencies are measured. Moreover, you will develop countless other professional skills at NEWb. You learn how to apply for jobs, give presentations, network, communicate in a businesslike manner, and deal with client satisfaction. As part of your team, you are involved with holding meetings, negotiating, brainstorming and making plans in order to achieve a good end-result. Receiving and giving feedback ensures that you become aware of your own qualities and of the areas that need developing; this is something you work on during your time at NEWb.
