Behind the scenes at NOS

The fieldtrip ‘Behind the scenes at NOS,’ started off with a rainy journey. The meeting point was at Rotterdam Central Station. As soon as the group was complete, we hopped on the train and headed towards Hilversum. At arrival on location, we were all soaked and cold, but luckily that did not spoil our mood. Everyone was very excited to go into the NOS building.

NEWb Network was responsible for the fun fieldtrip that they had organized for the NEWb students. This time the NEWbees got the chance to visit the NOS, a public broadcast station responsible for news broadcasting (news, sports and events) that is reliable and independent at the same time.

After we had checked in at NOS, the reception lady told us to wait. While waiting at the reception, we saw allot of employers walking into the building, as well as walking out. Can you imagine the amount of people that work for NOS? Everywhere you see young professionals working their ass off. It was such an inspiring environment for us.

Finally a friendly NOS employer took us upstairs to their cafeteria. Here we got some inside information on how it is to work for such a big company and what their daily task are. Everyone was paying good attention to the NOS tour guide. Afterwards we got a tour of the workplace, TV Studios and editing rooms. At the end of our ‘behind the scenes tour’ we attended an editorial meeting. Young professionals and a few interns were discussing about daily stuff in their own lives. Every individual had to pick one subject for his or her article.

Highlight of the day
A tour on the NOS work floor. The NEWbees had a look in the studio areas, such as the studio room of Het Achtuurjournaal, de Jeugdjournaal and the radio studio. The students even had the possibility to take pictures behind the desk of the newsreader.

Working for NOS? Boring? No way definitely not! Working for NOS is a great opportunity for students, if they aspire a career at a big public broadcaster. NOS is looking for ambitious students, those who do not have nine to five mentality, but those who want to work hard and those who strive to be the best.
