In the Spotlight: Binnenstad Rotterdam

Last week the honor of 'Group of the Week' went to Binnenstad Rotterdam. An external group that is working on a assignment for the local authority of Rotterdam. Under the wings of SMT’er Jennifer Alcock and expert Stephanie Beckers they are doing a pretty good job. We didn’t know much about them so we were very curious to meet them!

Say hello!
The group exists out of five Communication students. Projectleader Tessa Huisman, marketing manager Loucarla Adamus, assistent projectleader Emma Budding, financial manager Michelle Rath and creative manager Michaël Lapré. They all applied for this particular assignment, and luckily they all got selected. Funny detail, four of them are part of the same class. The fifth member Loucarla Adamus got to be a 'NEWb' in their group, but she immediately fitted in well.

Early adapt
This group had the opportunity to skip 'the well known akward getting to know each other proces', and basically went right down to business. They already bumped in to some difficulties in a early stage of development. The group felt slightly insecure about their assignment, not beacuse of they didn’t know what to do, but because of the fact that the NEWb manual did not fit their plan. And when that happens, it leaves you no choice but to get creative, sail a different route, and make it work anyway.

When creativity calls
Despite the inconvenience that they felt a little bit limited in their work because of the strict rules  of the manual, they managed to find a way that worked for them within the guiding lines of NEWb. NEWb is all about taking on a independent professional mentality. It’s about getting things done yourself. May be confusing in the beginning, but in the end of the road, every NEWb student will walk away convincingly enriched, and very proud of themselves that they rocked their task in their own power. Not every group likes it, but every group has to go through it. This team knew how to anticipate.

Team Talent
The team is a mix of talents. Emma and Michael both studied at the Dutch creative college for Media, Design & Technology. Michelle is a star in being punctual, and Tessa always thinks of just about anything to keep the group sharp and focused. Loucarla’s experience in doing excellent deskresearch has been a very big help for the team. They also have one very important thing in common, that happens to come extremeley usefull with the assignment that they’ve been given: Their incredible drive to do things perfect.

NEWb Project
The local authority of Rotterdam asked this group to take upon a closer examination about the students that study in Rotterdam and their social behaviour within the city. It seems to be that the students are not as active as they want them to be. The group can’t say too much about their research and diagnostic findings, but they are pretty sure that they will come up with a refreshing advice to improve the contact between the students and the city of Rotterdam.

Original Pitchers: White Coats & Laboratory Animals
The pitch was an awesome peak for the whole team. Because their task mainly is about doing research, and it wasn’t necessary to convince their initiator, they once again had to use their creativity with presenting their pitch. They chose to do something totally different and so they dressed themselves in those typical white doctors coats, inclusive the enormous geeky glasses, and used the jury and  the audience as their laboratory animals. A bold plan of attack, daring strategy, but everybody thought it was absolutely genius. Way to go guys!

Ambitions
Studying Communication provides a wide variety of potential jobs after graduation. As for the future, they all are not quite sure which way they see themselves go precisely. For the moment no dream jobs or planned out careers for the members of this group. But they are confident that every member will find it’s way sooner or later. The most important thing now, is to finish up their NEWb project in a most successful way. And for as far as we can see, this team is going to pull that one off easily.

Goodluck to you all during the final NEWb period!
